Thumbs up Marcel!! Awesome as always. Really nice footage in the rain and some of your passing on the outside. The right side of your tire was messed!  Attila Kovacs

West Kelowna’s Marcel Irnie looked to finish up the last round of the Parts Canada Superbike Series at Shannonville Ontario on a positive note. After crashing out of the latter stages of the previous round in Shubenacadie Nova Scotia (while battling for second place), Irnie was anxious to find redemption in the final event. With four long weeks separating the final two rounds of the season, Irnie had to camp in Shannonville, using the time to prepare for the race and heal the bumps and bruises sustained in the Maritime crash.

Marcel Irnie’s quest for success in the Armour Bodies Amateur Sport Bike class of the Parts Canada Superbike Series brought him to Atlantic Motorsport Park (AMP) in Shubenacadie, NS. As a lone privateer, the West Kelowna, BC native made the arduous seven day journey by himself. Irnie arrived the week prior to the Parts Canada National to participate in the regional races at AMP. This race weekend was used to regain his fitness and prepare the machinery for the National race. Using race worn tires, Irnie rode conservatively, bringing his lap times into the 1:12’s, placing 4th, 5th, and 3rd, but was penalized three positions in Sundays race for passing under a waving yellow.

Long Way To Go

"Marcel Irnie desperately wants to find success as a Canadian road racer-so much so that he's willing to live in a tent to do it."

Ask Marcel Irnie what he learned in his year competing in the Canadian Amateur 600 Sport Bike championship, and he can sum it up in one sentence:  "You have to be the guy in the suit and the guy in the race leathers." Irnie started racing only two years ago, but jumped into the deep end in 2008, finishing sixth in the national series despite contesting only four of six races. And although he spent $8,000 in fuel driving his race bike hauler back and forth from his home in Kelowna to the eastern rounds, the 24-yearold is ready to do it all again in 2009. For a British Columbia racer with big aspirations, it goes with the territory.
